ABOUT THE FARM.
This lot comes from smallholder farmers in the village of Banko Gotiti, who grow coffee on a small scale. The coffee is hand-picked selectively and washed, then dried on African raised beds, which ensure good ventilation and slow, even drying, key factors in preserving the quality of the bean.
ABOUT THIS COFFEE.
The Yirgacheffe region, in the Gedeo Zone of southern Ethiopia, is one of the most renowned specialty coffee origins in the world. Its coffee-growing areas lie mainly between 1,700 and 2,200 metres above sea level, in mountainous terrain with fertile volcanic soils and rich biodiversity. The climate is cool and humid, with well-distributed rainfall and mild temperatures that favour the complex profiles typical of the area. Production relies almost entirely on native Ethiopian (heirloom) varieties, grown by smallholders on small family plots, usually under shade and using traditional farming practices. Yirgacheffe has built an international reputation for very clean coffees with elegant profiles, and is a long-standing benchmark in Ethiopian specialty coffee.
